In Buenos Aires, Argentina it took place the XI International Philosophy Olympiad as from 7th up to 10th May 2003, under the auspices of and financed by the Argentine Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. This event has also been sponsored by UNESCO, University of Paris VIII and the Iberoamerican States Organization (OEI). It has been organized by the Argentine Association of Philosophy Olympiad.
On Wednesday 7th May the Opening Session took place, welcoming the seventeen foreign Delegations that have participated in this event. This ceremony has been carried out at the "Leopoldo Marechal" room of the Argentine Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. In the XI International Philosophy Olympiad framework a videoconference was broadcasted by the University of Paris VIII. Relevant figures in the field of philosophy have addressed those attending the sessions with lectures. We refer to Ph. D. Ph.D. Manuel Bernales Alvarado, an expert in the UNESCO Program for Social and Human Sciences, in Montevideo, Uruguay delivered a lecture as well: "Unthinking social sciences, unthinking philosophy".
A careful process of evaluation of all essays related to the thirty-nine students who took part in the philosophical contest was carried out.
